Gidgee House is for guests aged 18 and over, in the dining room and upstairs, without exception.

At the door

What we ask to see

  1. Anyone who looks under 25 may be asked for identification, and we will ask politely and treat everyone alike.
  2. Guests who arrive as a group are checked one by one, since the age of a group is only as reliable as its youngest member.
  3. We keep no record of the cards we see. A glance at the date of birth is all we need, and the card goes straight back to you.
  4. A current driver licence, a passport, a proof of age card or a photo identity card issued by a state or territory is accepted.
  5. Digital copies and photographs of a licence on a phone cannot be accepted, as we cannot tell whether they are genuine.
  6. Expired cards are not accepted. If yours has run out, a passport will do.
  7. Guests under 18 cannot enter the house at any hour, whether or not an adult is with them.
  8. A friend or relative vouching for someone's age is kind of them, but it does not replace identification.
Reasons and questions

Why 18 and what to ask

Why we set the line at eighteen

The casino room is an adult space: its tables echo real casino games, and we believe those games belong to grown-ups. The same rule covers the dining room because the stairs, the hours and the company are designed for adults. Keeping a single rule for the whole house is also simpler for everyone.

Eighteen is the age most people think of as adult, and the age at which gaming venues across the country admit guests. We follow that line even though our chips are worth nothing, because it would feel odd to be more relaxed than the world around us.

Visitors from overseas

A passport is accepted as identification, and so is any official photo card that shows your date of birth and is still in date. Please bring the original, since photocopies cannot be accepted, and a driver licence from another country is fine if it carries a photograph.

A word on the website

When you open this website, it asks you to confirm that you are 18 or over. The tick is a courtesy, not a check, and it only remembers your answer in your own browser. The real check is always at the door, in person, with a card in your hand.

Questions you might have

If you are not sure whether your identification qualifies, ring the house and ask Olivia before you come in. If you have been turned away and think we made a mistake, speak to Todd, who will look at it again with you. We would sooner explain than argue on the doorstep.

Are you 18 or over?
